Reports about lawmakers and their associates taking out large sums of loans with lowinterest rate from the Fund to Develop Small and Mediumsized Enterprise (SME) caused uproar among the public. The scandal has stirred up anger in society throughout fall and winter.
There has not been concrete evidence before to back claims in Mongolian politics in case where lawmakers and Cabinet ministers swindled the taxpayers for their personal gains.
Some believe that U.Khurelsukh gave nearly 30 lawmakers’ associates loans from the fund to return the favor of the lawmakers who helped U.Khurelsukh become prime minister as some of the lawmaker who are connected to the loan scandal voted for J.Erdenebat’s Cabinet resignation.
There are speculations that lawmakers led by Speaker M.Enkhbold might have leaked information about the SME loan misappropriation to the public to undermine U.Khurelsukh’s reputation and as well as disband his Cabinet.
It was reported that associates of lawmakers N.Uchral, J.Enkhbayar, N.Oyundari, Kh.Bolorchuluun, G.Soltan, O.Batnasan, B.Undarmaa, Ya.Sodbaatar, and B.Javkhlan took out loans from the fund.
