Conscription begins today
Conscription will be conducted from January 4 to 21 in conformity with the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Resolution No. A/1107.
According to organizers, all young men between the ages of 18 and 25 are obliged to perform compulsory one-year military service. Those drafted this year must register for or provide a valid reason to postpone their conscription in person at their local khoroo office between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the weekends.
Khoroo offices will also register people who want to serve in the military voluntarily. Those eligible to do so are training officers under the age of 65, men aged between 18 and 50 who have completed their compulsory military service, and female military professionals under the age of 50.
All men and women of the required age group are obliged to get their military service papers signed every year. If a person who reached the maximum age of military service hasn’t served in the military, he will be fined with the cost of one-year soldier training, in accordance with the law. The fine amount is determined by the government every year.
Khoroo offices said that they must be notified if people who received a draft notice have to travel abroad for more than three months during the registration period for the conscription or changed their address.
