Michael Klecheski to serve as US Ambassador to Mongolia

On January 2, the United States Senate confirmed the nomination of Michael Klecheski as the ambassador of the United States of America to Mongolia by voice vote.

In his statement at Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on January 4, Klecheski said, “It is my honor to appear before you as President Trump’s nominee to be US Ambassador to Mongolia. I am grateful for the support and confidence of the president and of Secretary Pompeo. Working these many years in the Foreign Service has been a privilege, most importantl­y because it has allowed me to serve my country, and I would be honored to do so again in this most important capacity.”

Michael S. Klecheski was deputy chief of mission at the US embassies in Manila, Philippine­s, from 2015 to 2018 and in Astana, Kazakhstan from 2013 to 2015. With over 30 years of diplomatic experience in Asia and Europe, Klecheski has extensive experience in economic developmen­t and democratiz­ation. He also served at diplomatic missions in Russia, Iraq, Switzerlan­d and Poland.

Klecheski earned a bachelor of science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a master’s degree from Columbia University. Klecheski is the recipient of 12 notable awards from the State Department, including the Expedition­ary Service Award. He speaks Russian, Polish, French and Tagalog.
