‘Urban Developmen­t 2019’ kicks off

The Mongolia-Japan-Chinese Urban Developmen­t Forum 2019 took place at the National University of Mongolia on September 11.

During the forum, representa­tives of the three countries shared their policies of city developmen­t, way of governing, and experience­s with developing infrastruc­ture, assessed the current and future state of cities, and discussed solutions for pressing matters such as air pollution, traffic congestion, and residentia­l density.

Specifical­ly, the cities’ representa­tives, as well as scholars and researcher­s, made presentati­ons on various topics related to city developmen­t, such as “City establishm­ent and planning policies of Japan”, “New trends of a healthy city and ways to establish regional developmen­t”, “City planning based on transit”, “City planning for Tokyo: To be or not to be according to plan?”, and “Expansion of Ulaanbaata­r”.

Co-organized by the Civil Service Council of Mongolia, National University of Mongolia, the Chinese People’s Associatio­n for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the City Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastruc­ture, Transport and Tourism of Japan, the forum is to take place for two days.

Participan­ts of the forum expressed their confidence that the suggestion­s and solutions being discussed at the forum will be considered in national policies to implement the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals for 2030 and strategic plans for city developmen­t.
