People working in the mining and quarrying sector earn the highest, with monthly salaries averaging 2.6 million MNT, whereas those working in accommodation and food services earn the lowest at around 700,000 MNT in Mongolia, according to the National Statistics Office.

The office released a new social and economic report for August on Thursday. The report showed that the national average monthly wage reached 1.16 million MNT, up by 13.2 percent, or around 135,000 MNT, compared to the same period of last year. Experts assessed that the rise was attributed to wage rises in various sectors, mainly administrative and support assistance service, arts and entertainment sector, and construction sector.

Based on the report, employees working in the mining and quarrying sector earn double the national average wage rate and other high paying sectors are utility supply sector (1.49 million MNT a month), manufacturing (1.19 million MNT), and transportation and storage sector (1.18 million MNT). The least paying sector is accommodation and food service activities at 724,500 MNT a month, followed by arts and entertainment sector (751,600 MNT a month); household related production and services (777,700 MNT a month), and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (824,100 MNT a month).
