Members of the Union of Mongolian Artists have put together a new group show “Still Life” to start a conversation about art and life while engaging more people in art.

From colorful oil paintings to blackand-white sketches to pastel watercolor paintings, “Still Life” is a blend of little treats in life that are often neglected or simply “unseen” by most people in their busy daily lives. Many of the displayed artworks paint flowers in vases, fruit baskets, and dining table with everyday necessities. The painting that stood out the most to me was a very bright red painting showing the silhouette of a cat sitting on a table under a lamp. All of this is hard to make out with the contrasting colors wrapped in blocks and in a style that is both creative and imaginative.

“Still Life” is an exhibition where you can clear your mind, relax and take a break from your usual thoughts. While there are extremely detailed and masterfully painted artworks, there are very simple ones that you could almost mistake as a doodle by a child and these simple artworks seem to encourage that even I, without the basic art skills, can try to paint and indulge in art.

The exhibition will be on view through February 5 at the Art Gallery of the Union of Mongolian Artists, located south of Sukhbaatar Square. The gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day.
