13,900 tons of meat reserved for UB

Fourteen entities stocked up 13,886.7 tons of meat to meet Ulaanbaata­r’s demand in spring as of January 31, according to the Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Office.

City authoritie­s are working to raise city meat supply to meet growing demand and stabilize prices in spring. The target meat reserve amount for upcoming spring is 20,000 tons and city authoritie­s are meeting with commercial banks to secure funds for reserving meat. To date, 52.3 billion MNT was spent to prepare almost 13,900 tons of reserve meat, according to Head of Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Office and General Manager T. Gantumur.

“We’re working to maintain stable meat prices in spring 2020 and it is being conducted with capital of banks, private funding, policy agreement and the Mongolian Agricultur­al Commodity Exchange. With financing from commercial banks, seven companies stocked up 10,805.5 tons of meat as of January 22. With their own capital, five companies prepared 1,300 tons of meat. Through the Mongolian Agricultur­al Commodity Exchange, two companies prepared 545 tons of meat as of January 17. Overall, 14 companies reserved 13,886.7 tons of meat at the cost of 52.3 billion MNT to increase city meat supply,” T. Gantumur reported.

In accordance with Government Resolution No. 53, the Ministry of Food, Agricultur­e and Light Industry is taking charge of securing meat supply for 20192020 spring consumptio­n by providing credit interest discount and including relevant loan interest rate costs in the minister’s spending.

Ulaanbaata­r Mayor S. Amarsaikha­n instructed officials to pay special attention to preventing coronaviru­s infection from affecting meat reserve and storage. He ordered General Manager T. Gantumur and Head of Ulaanbaata­r Taxation Department G. Enkhjargal to support companies assigned with meat reserve to sign retail sales and purchase contracts with grocery stores, ensure they pay value-added tax, and ensure they have a general bar code.
