National Committee on Gender Equality submits its 2019 report

Last Friday, the Mongolian National Committee on Gender Equality submitted its 2019 report, and approved its 2020 plan.

This year’s plan consists of 88 actions. Chaired by Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, the committee discussed and issued a new directive on “The difference in life expectancy of men and women and the factors that influence it”, as well as intensifie­d implementa­tion measures of the Law on Gender Equality and introducin­g best practices of gender equality to rural regions of Mongolia. The commission also awarded a number of state employees and agencies for their efforts in ensuring gender equality.

The committee then agreed on a number of other actions in the near-future, such as requesting the Ministry of Finance to develop and approve gender-sensitive budgeting approaches and implement them in all levels of government, have committee members to incorporat­e gender-specific quantitati­ve data from to their reports, pay a particular attention to the fact that the difference between life expectancy of men and women is 10 years and develop a long-term policy, begin a multi-agency effort to develop a national program to help employees ensure a healthy balance between personal life and work, and reflect prevention of workplace violence and sexual harassment in the upcoming revision to the Labor Law.

The prime minister also requested to begin work on improving the understand­ing of gender equality across all civil employees.
