Mongolia one step closer to building Chinggis Khaan Museum
Chinggis Khaan was one of the most influential people in history. In line with this premise, the Mongolian government had approved the construction of the Chinggis Khaan museum in Mongolia in 2019, and Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh approved the museum’s mission statement last week.
The statement reads in part, “Establishment of the Chinggis Khaan Museum will educate children and youth in national history and kingship, restore nationalism, strengthen unity, enlighten the broader society and is a chance to promote [Mongolian culture] with truthful and unbiased history to both the region and the international community.”
The government believes the new museum will provide the opportunity for larger international cultural events to take place in Mongolia, and is part of an overall effort to develop cultural tourism in the country.
The museum’s time period will cover Mongol ancestors dating back to the Khunnu (Hun) Empire to the establishment of the Mongol Empire. Museum halls highlight historical documents, facts and artifacts of prominent leaders of tribes and confederations of Khunnu, Xianbei, Juan-juan, Tureg (Tuareg), Uighur, Kidan, Khamag Mongol and Ikh Mongol peoples, in addition to the heroic deeds of Mongol warriors and political forces who fought against the Qing Empire and the remnants of the Golden Lineage of Chinggis Khaan, who restored Mongol people’s independence at the beginning of the 20th century.
The museum is set to be a non-profit educational organization with the purpose of collecting, maintaining and presenting historic documents, facts and artifacts based on or connected to Chinggis Khaan.
