Having an ice rink for training and competitions throughout the year was a dream to Mongolians, especially to winter sports athletes. Steppe Arena LLC is hoping to realize their dream with the construction of the Ice Arena, funded by Mongolian companies Steppe Copper, UPS, AchitIkht, Mongol Basalt and MAK.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Ice Arena, also known as Steppe Arena, was held in April 15, 2019. Even though last summer’s rainy weather delayed construction process by 28 days, executors managed to catch up in winter.

The executor of the project reported the arena construction is 75 percent complete after a year since the groundbreaking ceremony.

Experienced Austrian company AST will soon start their work on building the ice rink. Sports experts say that this highstandard ice arena with modern technology will take Mongolian winter sports to the next level as athletes will be able to compete in international competitions at contender’s level. As Mongolia's first indoor ice arena, the Steppe Arena is primarily intended for winter sports, such as ice hockey, figure skating, curling, and short track speed skating. Special elastic cover can be used to overlay the ice rink so it can be used for other indoor sports such as basketball, boxing, gymnastics, taekwondo, volleyball, and wrestling tournaments as well as for concerts and cultural events.

The Ice Arena will be ready by October 10, 2020, affirmed the project executor.
