Mongolian students to be evacuated from Russia next week

The State Emergency Commission is planning to evacuate Mongolian nationals who currently live and study in Russia next week due as part of COVID19 response. Specifical­ly, on May 25, citizens and students of cities in the western part of Russia will be evacuated by special mission flight from Moscow to Ulaanbaata­r and students in western Siberian cities along the Ural Mountains will be brought back through Khiagt and Altanbulag border checkpoint on May 26 and 27. The relevant ministries and organizati­ons are cooperatin­g to receive the evacuees.

As of today, there are about 1,000 Mongolians in Russia who have applied to return home, and about 50 percent of them will return home through the planned evacuation in next week.

The Embassy of Mongolia in Russia is preparing to submit a list of citizens who will be registered for the direct flight on May 25 (the plane can bring up to 170 passengers) to the State Emergency Commission. The evacuation will include students whose school have officially requested the Mongolian Embassy to take back its student due to poor disinfecti­on in schools and dormitorie­s, and high risk of infection; students who previously applied for evacuation; young children and pregnant women; and people with chronic and underlying diseases.

In addition to the abovementi­oned reasons, there are common criteria for registrant­s, such as having previously registered to return home, paying for tickets and isolation, have tested negative for the coronaviru­s, and the State Emergency Commission will finalize the list of passengers.

More than 130,000 people have entered Mongolia since January 26. Of these, more than 8,000 people were evacuated from abroad, including more than 3,000 people by 15 air transport, and 5,007 people by rail and other borders. As of last week, a total of 1,070 people have been evacuated from Russia, Turkey and India through Altanbulag border checkpoint. As of today, 10,761 people from 46 countries have applied to return due to the coronaviru­s pandemic
