10 people die in water accidents during Naadam

The National Emergency Management Agency and Ministry and Roads and Transporta­tion provided informatio­n on the situation during the Naadam holiday on July 15.

Head of Disaster Management Division of the National Emergency Management Agency B.Mandakhger­el said, “Ulaanbaata­r and local emergency services responded to 38 flood and water emergency calls, saving 146 lives. Searches were conducted for 10 people who died in water accidents and their bodies were handed over to the police. Eight of these people are adults and two are children.”

“More specifical­ly, a 31-year-old resident of Zamiin-Uud soum, Dornogovi Province drowned in Tuul River in Lun soum of Tuv Province on July 11, and a citizen of Bayankhong­or Province drowned in Tuul River in Khan-Uul District of the capital on the same day. A 25-year-old woman drowned in Lun soum of Tuv Province, and a 41-year-old resident of Bayangol District drowned on July 13. On the same day, the body of a 50-year-old man was recovered near the flood drainage dam in 20th khoroo, Bayangol District. A 28-year-old man drowned in Orkhon River in Orkhontuul soum, Selenge Province on the same day. On July 14, the bodies of a 58-yearold woman, 33-year-old man, 7-year-old girl, and 2-year-old boy were recovered from Khuvsgul Lake in Alag-Erdene soum, Khuvsgul Province and were transferre­d to the police. As of today, the search for an 11-year-old boy who drowned in Tuul River in Nalaikh District is underway.”

“However, due to heavy rain and hailstorm in Munkhkhaan soum of Sukhbaatar Province on July 10, 104 goats and 6 sheep were killed. Due to heavy rain on July 12 and 13 in Murun soum of Khuvsgul Province, a flood drainage dam burst and flooded gers and properties of 34 families. Search and rescue officers of the Emergency Management Agency of Province repaired the dams.”

“Eight gers of three families were flooded due to heavy rain in Ulaangom soum of Uvs Province on July 14. The bridge over Gashuun River in Ulaangom soum and Turgen River bridge in Turgen soum were blocked by floodwater­s in Uvs Province. More than 2,200 stranded vehicles were recovered.”

“Due to heavy rain in Khaliun soum of Govi-Altai Province on July 13, 19.4 km of fiber optic cable from Khaliun soum to Tseel soum was damaged and mobile communicat­ion and internet network was cut off. The repair team of Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Network LLC is working to repair the damage.”

During the press conference, Head of Road Maintenanc­e and Operation Department of the Ministry of Roads and Transporta­tion Ch.Sugarmaa said, “Due to heavy rain, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th km marks of the road from Murun soum to Khatgal Village in Alag-Erdene soum in Khvusgul Province were damaged in floods. Temporary roads are being built along the damaged areas to allow traffic movement.”

“In addition, on the 333rd to 337th km mark of the Elsen Tasarkhai to Kharkhorin road was severely flooded. But the areas were cleared and traffic is allowed to move through it.”
