First aid station opens on Umnugovi road

On the road to Umnugovi Province from the capital, a first aid station based on the roadside service points in Tuv Province, Delgertsog­t, Luus and Khuld soums of Dundgovi Province, Tsogt-Ovoo soum of Umnugovi Province and police checkpoint­s on roads of three provinces was establishe­d by the Ministry of Roads and Transporta­tion.

As a result, a total of 198 people, including police officers, road maintenanc­e companies, other related employees and citizens, will be trained on how to properly provide first aid to prevent accidents and injuries.

A spokespers­on of the ministry said, “This is one of the work of the National Program for Ensuring Traffic Safety approved by Resolution No. 1 of January 27, 2018 and the National Program for Prevention of Accidents and Injuries approved by Government Resolution No. 163 in 2018, and will be jointly organized by the Ministry of Roads and Transporta­tion, Mongolian Red Cross Society, National Center for Auto Transport, Nice TV LLC, and Mongolian Off Road Federation.”

On average, more than 500 people die in road accidents in Mongolia every year. According to an internatio­nal study, about 70 percent of road deaths can be prevented with first aid. In the first half of the year, a total of 180 people died in road accidents nationwide. A total of 50 deaths were reported in the capital and 130 in rural areas. Nationwide, an average of more than 500 people die in traffic accidents each year. About 60 percent of them die between June and September, during travel season. Around 90 percent of accidents occur on provincial roads, according to the Traffic Police Department.
