260 Mongolians to be evacuated from Japan

During the regular briefing of the Health Ministry on July 21, Head of the National Center for Infectious Disease D.Nyamkhuu made updates on COVID-19 infection in the country.

“On July 20, 520 people, including 250 people who came on the Seoul-Ulaanbaata­r aircraft on July 20, 29 in the Central Military Hospital and its 39 medical staff and three people who were randomly chosen from the population, tested negative for the coronaviru­s in four laboratori­es.”

“A total of 213 people have been treated in the past. Currently, 74 people are receiving treatment. Surveillan­ce research is ongoing.”

“Seasonal influenza virus outbreaks occur in October and November. At that time, we need to be prepared for the amount of stress that can come with seasonal flu and coronaviru­s infections. Under high organizati­on, we work together as one. We must continue to do so.”

The government of Mongolia and the State Emergency Commission are gradually evacuating citizens who want to return home. In this context, a special mission aircraft left for Japan at 9:45 a.m. on July 21. A total of 260 people are expected to return home on a special mission flight from Tokyo. The special mission plane was expected to land at Chinggis Khaan Internatio­nal Airport at 9:15 p.m. July 22.

This is the 38th evacuation flight this year and the eighth in July. In addition, the Ulaanbaata­r-Frankfurt flight will evacuate citizens in Europe on July 26, and two more Ulaanbaata­r-Seoul flights will be launched on July 28 and 29. The Ulaanbaata­r-Sydney flight will be operated on July 30 and will carry a total of 1,470 people.

The government of Mongolia and the State Emergency Commission has been evacuating citizens abroad since March. Through charter flights, 1,057 people were evacuated in March, 1,064 in April, 1,368 in May and 2,427 in June. In July, a total of 3,397 people are expected to be evacuated through 15 special mission flights.

In addition, the Seoul-Ulaanbaata­r special mission plane landed at Chinggis Khaan Internatio­nal Airport at 5:20 p.m. on July 20. A total of 265 people are on board, including nine infants, 38 people with young children, 32 pregnant women and their guardians, 20 senior citizens, six people with disability, 30 people with health difficulti­es and their guardians, 15 people who were detained on charges of illegal residence, and 124 people with other reasons.

Evacuees were isolated for 21 days at the NCID, the Central Military Hospital, and the Erkhes, Sentii, and Toyoko Inn hotels.
