-

A film about legendary wrestler, Ulsyn Avarga D.Khadbaatar will be made by producers of Shark Tank reality show by Mongol TV and with cooperation of MCS Group. The film project is being produced for the late wrestler’s 70th birthday. The film will be directed by Honored Cultural Figure B.Nagnaidorj and two times state prized composer N.Jantsannorov will compose the music of the film, while B.Oidov writes the script. B.Nagnaidorj is known for his film “Khunii Saikhan Setgel” (1980) and worked as assistant director in “Mandukhai Setsen Khatan” and “Munkh Tengeriin Khuchin Dor” under famed director B.Baljinnyam.

Ulsyn Avarga D.Khadbaatar, commonly known as Khadaa Avarga, was a legendary wrestler from Tuv Province. His life and career was filled with adventure. He was sentenced for assault three times. After he obtained the ulsyn avarga title, he was sentenced to four years in prison and spent his prime years behind bars. People believe that alcohol was the culprit and some say that he was wrongly accused. Documentaries were made to explain the scandals of his life in early 2000s. D.Khadbaatar was a huge wrestler and people who knew him described him as “big as a bear, gentle as a child”.

Mongolians rarely make biographical film about legendary athletes or artists. It will be interesting to watch a film about D.Khadbaatar. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the film will be who will get to play D.Khadbaatar.
