Cinematography database to be created
On October 7, the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science convened to discuss a bill on promotion of cinematography and accompanying bills with an attendance of 61.1 percent.
During the meeting, the bill on promotion of cinematography and accompanying bills submitted by the government was introduced by Minister of Culture S.Chuluun.
The bill was drafted to create a legal environment for Mongolian film to compete in the world market, support and develop the film industry in line with economic development.
It defines the policy direction and principles for the development of cinematography, and states the rights and responsibilities of state organizations, the creation of a database of cinematography, and support for the development of cinematography.
Amendments to the Law on Culture, Law on Infringements of Mongolia, Law on Investigation of Regulatory Infringements, Law on Government Special Funds, and the Law on State Stamp Duties were drafted in relation to the bill.
Noting that the activities of the Film Promotion Fund are regulated by the Law on Government Special Funds, Minister of Culture S.Chuluun said, “The normal functioning of circuses, film studios and cinemas is a policy issue facing the new ministry. In addition, we are focusing on entrusting the activities of the Film Support Fund to external and professional councils.”
Members of the standing committee stressed the need for government support for film development policies.
The bill on promotion of cinematography, and accompanying bills was supported by the standing committee for parliamentary review with an approval of 81.8 percent.
In addition, a working group was established to draft amendments to the Law on Legal Status of the Academy of Sciences. It will be chaired by lawmaker Yo.Baatarbileg.
