Apartment fire kills 1 adult, injures 2 children
The Ulaanbaatar Emergency Management Agency, Ulaanbaatar Specialized Inspection Agency, Health Department and Air Pollution Control Agency provided information on current issues on October 8.
Head of Disaster Prevention Division of the National Emergency Management Agency G.Nergui said, “In recent days, the number of calls and reports of smoke inhalation has increased. Last night, four people from three families were treated at the Ulaanbaatar Emergency Center due to smoke inhalation. There were two adults and two young children. The children were transferred to the National Center for Maternal and Child Health for treatment and counseling, and returned home.”
“The ambulance served three people from two families, counseled one adult, and sent them home. An adult is currently being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning at the hospital.”
As of 2020, about 1,700 emergency calls have been received in the capital city. It included five forest and steppe fire calls, 1,545 fire incidences and 175 requests for rescue. About 1,600 people were rescued from fire and 78 billion MNT worth of property was protected. Fire incidences killed 27 people in the capital this year, 25 adults and 2 children.
A 48-year-old resident of Songinokhairkhan District died of smoke inhalation in an apartment fire. A 12-year-old and 3-month-old children from a neighboring family were hospitalized due to the fire. According to preliminary reports, the fire was caused by electrical faults.
Head of Air Quality, Control and Organization Division G.Davaajargal said, “In total, about 6,000 government officials are conducting inspections throughout the six central districts. There are 200 households per employee. This year, the installation of smoke detectors in new khoroos and households in the air quality improvement zone has been completed. To date, about 190,000 smoke detectors have been installed in all households in the six central districts. Currently, there are about 500 points of sale of improved briquettes. This year, 23 companies are engaged in briquette transportation. With the onset of the cold season, air pollution has increased to some extent. Nitrogen dioxide particles in the air decreased by 20 to 30 percent, and the content of other pollutants did not exceed the standard.”
