Deputy roads minister chairs 6th session of Transport Committee
Deputy Minister of Road and Transport Development J.Bat-Erdene chaired the sixth hybrid session of the Committee on Transport of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), held from November 12 to 13 in Bangkok, Thailand. Mongolia’s Ambassador to Thailand and Resident Representative to ESCAP A.Tumur took part in the event.
During the session, over 200 transport ministers and other representatives from 53 member countries exchanged views on important issues concerning regional transport development strategy, Action Programme for Sustainable Transport Connectivity in Asia and the Pacific, Sustainable Development Goals, and some decisions of ESCAP. They also discussed preparations for the Ministerial Conference on Transport, set to take place in Bangkok next year, and goals of the new regional action plan for 2022 to 2026.
Ambassador A.Tumur underlined Mongolia’s role in the Asia Pacific Regional Transport Network, ways to expand the transport network, and proposals and initiatives for joint projects and programs with member countries and ESCAP.
He stressed that supporting infrastructure and transport development, trade, and free trade zones, expanding cooperation, and strengthening regional economic integration are important for landlocked Mongolia and expressed willingness to support ESCAP’s cooperation proposals and initiatives for these efforts.
