Lawmakers take part in IPU Assembly
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Innovation and e-Policy, member of the Bureau of the IPU Standing Committee on UN Affairs N.Uchral and lawmaker Ts.Munkhtsetseg participated in a series of virtual conferences as a preparation for the 142nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly last week.
At the virtual conference, Ts.Munkhtsetseg presented a speech on how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting inequality. In her speech, she noted that the pandemic is further deepening inequality at the global level, and it is particularly apparent in employment, digital sparsity and specific hardship on women, and obvious in the limited vaccine accessibility.
Noting that the countries which have not successfully implemented policies in health service, social security, appropriate labor remunerations and fair taxation systems are hit hard by the COVID-19’s impact on economic sector and public disasters, the legislator concluded that the pandemic and inequality must be fought with global effort.
The presenters and Parliament members of other countries underlined and expressed agreement in their presentations during the conference that the universal solutions and post pandemic recoveries and fulfilling the UN SDG objectives can only be achieved by the active and close cooperation of the countries in the world.
During the conference, the participants discussed the UN75 declaration and received a report on the latest developments. It also conducted a virtual survey from participants and heard their opinions on both the UN75 declaration and the UN SDG.
