Presidential candidates to submit documents today
Political parties and coalitions with seats in Parliament nominated their candidates for the presidency over the past weekend. They must submit their documents to the General Election Commission (GEC) by May 5, and the commission will issue a resolution to register presidential election candidates by May 8.
In accordance with Article 28.7 of the Law on Presidential Election, the GEC will register eligible candidates for the 2021 presidential election and will grant candidacy cards within 16 days prior to the polling day. Candidates will officially start their election campaign after receiving their candidacy cards.
The Mongolian People’s Party, the Democratic Party (DP), and the Right Person Voter Coalition (RPVC) submitted their action plans to the National Audit Office on May 2. The audit office sent a letter to the DP caucus in Parliament for clarification. In this regard, the caucus has sent a request to Head of the NAO D.Zandanbat on May 3.
The caucus stated, “DP has more than 180,000 members. State power is exercised through the
DP caucus in Parliament. As a national party, we demand that the request of any person illegally nominated by the party not be accepted and resolved, and that the audit office fulfill its legal obligations by making an urgent conclusion on the action plan of the legitimate candidate of DP N.Altankhuyag.”
The NAO will review whether the objectives and measures set out in the action plan are in line with long and medium-term development policy and planning documents, and whether the amount of expenditures required to implement measures that require specific financial resources meet the special budget requirements set out in the Fiscal Stability Law.
MPP nominated Chairman of the party U.Khurelsukh, RPVC nominated founder of Datacom D.Enkhbat, while DP with two leaders nominated former Chairman of the party S.Erdene and lawmaker N.Altankhuyag for the 2021 presidential election.
The GEC will decide which of the two candidates to register for the election. The commission said that the decision will be made based on the documents submitted and inquiries from relevant organizations.
