Coal shipment remains weighed down by Chinese border control
Total of 75 vehicles passed through the Gashuunsukhait border checkpoint on Friday, showing slight improvement in traffic since China tightened border control after new cases of COVID-19 in the area, reported the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry.
Of the total vehicles that entered into Chinese territory, 50 carried coal, 16 carried iron concentrate and nine carried other types of cargo and goods. The same number of trucks were allowed entry into Mongolia – 50 coal trucks, 16 iron concentrate trucks, and nine cargo trucks.
The ministry underlined that China has been restricting the number of trucks passing through the border since another person was diagnosed with the coronavirus last week.
Reports suggest that 209 Mongolian drivers were transported to China in seven buses to undergo PCR tests.
