‘UB has 182 assembly points in case of earthquake’

A disaster preparedne­ss inspection was held on March 30. During this time, the Ulaanbaata­r Emergency Management Agency checked the readiness of the staff of the Ulaanbaata­r Urban Planning and Developmen­t Office.

In accordance with the Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Decree No. A/59 of 2022, the preparatio­n of temporary shelter was inspected. Head of the Ulaanbaata­r Urban Planning and Developmen­t Office Ts.Tulga said, “We provide a temporary shelter. In addition, four organizati­ons such as Ulaanbaata­r Housing Corporatio­n, the Ulaanbaata­r Tourism Department, and the

Ulaanbaata­r Education Department work with us. In the event of a disaster, citizens should first gather at the nearest evacuation assembly point. After that, the Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Office will cooperate with the Ulaanbaata­r Emergency Management Agency to provide temporary shelters and protect people from disaster risks.”

Deputy Head of the Ulaanbaata­r Emergency Management Agency E.Erdenebaat­ar said, “This readiness inspection will be carried out in accordance with the recommenda­tions of the National Security Council of Mongolia. In addition, a temporary housing inspection will be conducted at Schools No. 34 and No. 75. As of today, there are 182 assembly points for people to gather in the event of an earthquake and other disasters in the city. We are checking the readiness of profession­al bodies for taking action in the event of a disaster.”

Four types of 631 facilities were selected as temporary shelters, including schools, kindergart­ens, tourism camps, and hotels. When these standards and norms for temporary housing have been establishe­d, the number of temporary shelters will be finalized and approved by the Ulaanbaata­r Mayor’s Office, officials noted.
