UB to host Asian Wrestling Championship in late April
The organizing committee of the Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championship held a press conference on April 12.
Chairman of the Asian Championships Organizing Committee P.Gansukh highlighted that the Asian Championships will be held in Mongolia for the first time in 21 years, with more than 250 athletes and 100 judges, coaches and officials from 23 countries expected to arrive for the event. The championship will kick off from April 19 to 24.
He further explained, “The Mongolian Wrestling Federation is working to organize the Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championship at a high level of quality using the latest technical equipment in accordance with the requirements of the United World Wrestling. The qualifier tournament was held three months ago and our national team is fully prepared for the competition.”
Athletes from Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have been training for the championship since April 7. The technical meeting is scheduled to take place on April 18 and the tournament is scheduled to officially open on April 19. This year, 30 athletes from Mongolia will participate in the competition, according to General Secretary of the Board of the Asian Wrestling Federation P.Buyandelger.
She said, “We do economic benefits assessment ahead of competitions. This Asian Championship will be beneficial for our economy as athletes from many countries will compete. For instance, athletes will come to Mongolia by direct flight and we are working with four hotels to provide accommodation for them. We are confident that it will be more competitive than ever before as many Olympic and World Championship medalists will challenge the tournament.”
More than 100 volunteers are assisting the organization of the competition.
