Mall and apartments to be built along Dund River
Many years have passed since the construction of a water park was approved along Dund River in the territory of 15th khoroo of Khan-Uul District. However, instead of a water park, apartment complexes were built along the river, evoking public criticism about misusing the land. In connection with this, city officials held a press conference to provide an explanation.
This land was reportedly first allocated for residential use on September 17, 2008. The land possession right was revoked on September 30, 2020, and the city administration decided to turn it into a green area. However, on September 30, 2021, the Administrative Court annulled the order and restored the land rights. Due to the obligation to comply with the court decision, the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office issued an order on January 11, 2022, to allow the land to be possessed for trade, public services, shopping complex, apartments, schools, and kindergartens.
Head of M&G Construction A.Amarbayasgalan clarified the construction process of the water park.
“It took a total of three years to get approval and develop the design. In addition to housing, 1,000 schools, 600 kindergartens and a shopping center will be built. We met three different mayors during this time. City officials have pressured the private sector to turn the land into green space. It is estimated that 90 million USD or 270 billion MNT will be spent on the construction of the water park alone. This is a big project and it requires some time to complete. The project was delayed due to the construction of a new bridge (west of the Galaxy Center) and a flood embankment at the site of the water park. We will build earthquake- buildings and not do anything risky. We will complete the project in two years,” he said.
