Herders welcome 9.4 million livestock offspring nationwide
As of April 11, out of 27.9 million calves expected to deliver, 9.5 million or 34.2 percent gave birth and received 9.4 million offspring. About 98.6 percent of all offspring survived, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
By region, calving is progressing at 47.7 percent in the western region, 33.6 percent in the Khangai region, 35.5 percent in the central region and 17.2 percent in the eastern region.
Vaccination against the highly contagious foot-andmouth disease in livestock is set to begin nationwide on April 18. In accordance with the resolution of the State Emergency Commission, preparations are underway to launch a nationwide emergency vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease.
Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Z.Mendsaikhan has instructed governors to organize an “Environmental Cleanup and Disinfection Month” campaign” starting April 15 to control the spread of foot-andmouth disease and reduce its risks.
As part of the campaign, the following measures will be taken in quarantined areas:
• To strictly enforce the quarantine regime by appointing specialized units to quarantined areas
• To control the movement of all types of vehicles and livestock during quarantine
• To establish temporary checkpoints for decontamination and disinfection of main roads and bridges entering and exiting quarantined and restricted areas
• In cooperation with relevant ministries, departments, and local administrations, to take measures to provide people working in quarantined areas with necessities such as shelter and food, and promptly coordinate the delivery of medicines, drugs and bio-preparations to people and animals
• To support veterinary departments in stockpiling disinfectants and protective clothing and equipment
• To stop otor (the movement of livestock through provinces for grazing) and ensure and monitor the implementation of Government Resolution No. 43 of 2019.
