10 MW solar power plant to launch in Khuvsgul

- By B.KHANTUSHIG

Within the framework of the Renewable Energy Enhancement Project funded by the Asian Development Bank and the government of Mongolia, the Ministry of Energy has signed a contract with foreign companies to build a 10 MW solar power plant in Murun soum, Khuvsgul Province.

JV of the Xian XD Electric Engineering Company and Changjiang Survey Planning Design and Research Company will build the 10MW solar power plant.

The construction of the plant will begin in May this year and is expected to be commissioned later this year. The solar power plant is estimated to generate an average of 20.14 million kWh of electricity per year to meet the needs of Khuvsgul Province and supply it to the central power system.

Project Manager Qin Weijun said, “We are delighted to be building a new 10 MW solar power plant in Mongolia at this historic time in the global transition to renewable energy. We plan to use state-of-the-art equipment to build this solar power plant, including the world’s longest-running high-efficiency solar cell manufactured by China’s Longgie plant and Germany’s world-famous SMA Solar Technology inverter station. Xian XD Electric Engineering is a global company with many years of experience in substation, transmission line and power system engineering, and operates in many countries around the world. Within this project, a 12.8 MW PV plant composed of 23,520 pieces of the 545 W high-efficiency PV module, 110 kV/10 kV substation and four-kilometer-long 110 kV transmission line will be built.”

Project Manager N.Enebish said, “This 10 MW solar power plant to be built in Murun soum will not only improve the power supply of Khuvsgul but also reduce the losses of the central power system and increase the share of renewable energy to 30 percent by 2030. We believe that it will make an important contribution to achieving the government’s goals.”

The commissioning of the plant will generate an average of 20.14 million kWh of clean energy per year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 16,000 tons per year, coals burned by 11,102 tons and freshwater consumption by 145,000 tons.
