Harvest plummets by 26.9%

As of October, a total of 413,000 tons of grain, 211,200 tons of potatoes, 139,800 tons of vegetables, 153,300 tons of fodder, 46,700 tons of technical crops, and 869,900 tons of hay were harvested, the National Statistics Office of Mongolia reported on Thursday.

Compared to the same period of last year, harvested potatoes surged by 33,200 tons (18.7 percent), vegetables by 25,400 tons (22.2 percent) and technical crops by 6,800 tons (17 percent), while grain harvesting was down by 152,400 tons (26.9 percent), cultivated fodder by 113,900 tons (42.6 percent) and prepared hay by 239,700 tons (21.6 percent).

Khentii, Darkhan-Uul, Dornod, Bulgan, Tuv and Selenge provinces harvested 4.8 to 41.3 percent of the total grain, while Uvurkhanga­i, Bayan-Ulgii, Darkhan-Uul, Khovd, Selenge and Tuv provinces collected 2 to 63.8 percent of potatoes and Orkhon, Khovd, Darkhan-Uul, Tuv and Selenge provinces 5.2 to 35.6 percent of vegetables.

Grain harvest in Khovd, Bayan-Ulgii, Dornod, Darkhan-Uul and Khentii provinces grew by 7.3 to 9,800 tons compared to the same period of last year but declined by 3.7 to 77,900 tons in other provinces.

Collected potatoes rose by 16.4 to 31,000 tons in Dornogovi, Khovd, Dundgovi, Uvurkhanga­i, Uvs, Darkhan-Uul, Bayan-Ulgii, Selenge and Tuv provinces and Ulaanbaata­r while it dropped by 37.3 to 1,200 tons in other provinces.

Uvurkhanga­i, Govi-Altai, Bayankhong­or, Darkhan-Uul, Umnugovi, Arkhangai, Zavkhan and Khuvsgul provinces planted 69.6 to 485.7 tons fewer vegetables but other provinces planted 16.4 to 17,700 tons more this year.

The harvest of technical crops saw a decrease of 155 to 2,400 tons in Uvurkhanga­i, Uvs and Tuv provinces, while it rose in other areas by 68 to 3,100 tons.

Moreover, Govisumber, Khovd, BayanUlgii and Selenge provinces and Ulaanbaata­r managed to increase their crop fodder by 27.6 tons to 7,400 tons while others decreased it by 0.2 to 74.4 tons.

Prepared hay rose by 177.1 to 33,100 tons in Ulaanbaata­r and Govi-Altai, Zavkhan, Selenge, Uvs and Dornod provinces, while it dropped by 15.2 to 115,100 tons in other provinces.
