Driver’s license to be updated

- By B.GEGEE

Mongolia has updated the model of its identity card and foreign passport. Soon the driver’s license will be renewed. The Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs has developed the revised draft of the ID card and has started taking opinions from citizens. Following the General Administrative Law, the public will be asked for their opinions within 30 days.

Ch.Bayarjargal, deputy head of the Registration and Control Center of the General Police Department, noted, “Our country became a member state in 1997 by ratifying the Vienna Convention. Following the sixth annex of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, some changes will be made to the updated model of driving license. In doing so, the current ID size and color will not be changed. In this way, Mongolian citizens living and working in the member countries of the Vienna Convention will have the opportunity to directly exchange their driver’s license with the driver’s license of their country of residence and have the right to drive a vehicle. “

Also, following the Law on the Protection of Personal Information, it was decided to remove the civil registration number from the ID card. In this regard, when asked whether citizens need to change their ID cards, he said, “There will be no difficulties for citizens, no changes in the price, and no money will be demanded from the budget. In particular, there is no requirement to replace it. Moreover, if the driver’s license has not expired, there is no need to change it, you can use the old one.”
