18-year-olds create AI for energy accumulation
The “Erdem Hackathon 2023” event was held with the aim of selecting science-based innovation projects with intellectual property rights and supporting them with investments. The participants presented their projects and the winners were selected on June 6.
The Data Lord team of 18-year-olds initiated the “Solar Power” Renewable Energy Technology Project to accumulate energy using artificial intelligence.
Member of the team B.Nandintsetseg said, “There are frequent power outages in Mongolia. At such a time, there is no phone, no internet, and no TV. Even if we try to cook, the stove does not work. We formed our own team. During the research, we came up with the idea of creating an artificial intelligence based on the latest advanced technology. At some point, just as our natural resources will run out, so will our electricity supply. We thought there was no other way than artificial intelligence to replace it. This means that our AI measures the sun’s ultraviolet rays or heat energy and continuously calculates the angle. In general, 25 percent more energy will be produced.”
Team member A.Dagvadorj noted, “Our AI might lose. A calculation is first performed on the given algorithm. If there is an error at this point, we will fix it and send it to other solar panels to solve the next problem. It means that day by day it will be error free. It took us nine months to develop it. First, we worked on the automation system. Our AI needs constant development.”
Senior specialist in innovation and introduction of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences R.Munkhzul informed, “This year, a total of 57 people registered to participate and submitted 32 project ideas. A total of 23 projects qualified for the final selection, and the participants presented their projects. This event was attended by students from Ulaanbaatar universities and academic institutions, but this year participants came from Darkhan and Erdenet cities.”
The Artemis team of the Institute of Biology won first place in the hackathon and received 20 million MNT. The Eco Lightweight Concrete Project won second place, and the Metakog Project took third place.
