-

In anticipation of the founding anniversary of the Democratic Party (DP), “Democracy rising: Women-Gender Policy Forum” was organized on December 4 under the theme “The real impact of gender balanced participation in overcoming the crisis of democracy”. The Chairman of the DP L.Gantumur delivered opening statement and highlighted a brief history of the establishment of DP since 2000 in his remarks. He highlighted that December is the month of fighters who called Mongolians to freedom. Chairman also emphasized the widening gap between rich and poor in society and amplified pressures mothers have to face in their everyday lives. He wished more women of democratic society would partake in solving the issue of inequality.

Members of Parliament, N.Ganibal, Deputy Chairman of the DP, Ts.Jadamba, Deputy Chairman of the DP, J.Bayarmaa, and Director of the Strategic Policy Research Institute, Z.Narantuya participated in the panel discussion. The core message underscored the impact of ruling party focused on harming the democracy and democratic values and the importance of more women joining the politics as a way to solve many social problems. Panelists’ discussion also tailored to democracy index which shows Mongolia’s democracy in retreat, dropping 17 places since 2017 until 2022. Mongolia ranked 60th in 2017 and 77th in 2022 in the Democracy Index. In 2017, according to the Corruption Index, Mongolia was ranked at 72nd, and in 2022, it dropped again to the placement of 122nd. All of them show the fact that democracy is indeed in crisis. Participants jointly agreed that women's participation at the decision-making level needs to be increased as the innate nature of women helps to find solutions that are always for people. In addition, panelists firmly noted highly of the economic conditions of women and assess how women’s participation in elections in the beginning of their election process affected their further achievement. The outcome of the forum brings out that the way to develop the country is through participation of women.
