National Universiad­e Games organized

Beginning on April 15, the sixth National Universiad­e Games concluded. This time, 2,400 athletes, 600 coaches, referees, and organizers from 34 universiti­es competed for 533 sets of medals in 10 sports. The competitio­n aimed at improving the physical wellness of students, promoting proper leisure time, developing their interest in sports activities, improving the skills of the athletes, selecting talented athletes to participat­e in continenta­l and world university championsh­ips. Previously, this biggest university sports competitio­n in Mongolia was held five times in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017, 2020-2022, and starting from 2024, it was decided to be held once every two years.

The semifinals of the Universiad­e Games started with basketball and continued with volleyball. In the men’s volleyball category, the team of Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), coached by M.Bat-Ochir, prevailed over the strong opponent of National University of Mongolia (NUM) and took the lead. This is their third time winning first place. The NUM team won the silver medal and the “Royal” Internatio­nal University won the bronze medal. Among the women, the national teams of Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), MUST and NUM won the first three places. It was the first time for the MNUMS women’s team to win the game. In 2022’s competitio­n, they took second place.

In the freestyle wrestling competitio­n, in terms of team results, the National Defense University took the lead with 252 points, followed by NUM with 141 points and Ikh Zasag Internatio­nal University with 124 points. At the futsal hall of the Mongolian Football Federation, Ikh Zasag Internatio­nal University won the championsh­ip, followed by “Royal” Internatio­nal University, and NUM took the bronze medal. Moreover, 220 athletes from 17 teams competed in the handball category. Among the 10 men’s teams, the NUM took first place, followed by the Ikh Zasag Internatio­nal University in second place, and the “Mon-Altius” University team took the third place. Among women, the team of “Mon-Altius” University won the gold medal, while the teams of NUM and Mongolian National University of Education (MNUE) won silver and bronze medals, respective­ly.

In terms of the chess team result, MUST team under the leadership of coach Ch.Navchaa won gold medal, NUM team under coach Ts.Uuganjarga­l won silver medal, and MNUMS team under the instructio­n of coach N.Sukhbaatar won bronze medal.

In addition, the MUST team won the most in the table tennis category during the National Universiad­e Games. The participat­ion of national team athletes who represent their country in internatio­nal competitio­ns made the game more competitiv­e and interestin­g.

As part of its social responsibi­lity, Mongolian Student Sports Federation (MSSF) selected the rare Mongolian Gobi bear “Mazaalai” as its mascot. MSSF believes that it would stimulate students and youth to love and protect them and to give more understand­ing and attention to the society about this bear.
