Amnesty International Mongolia presented the “State of the World’s Human Rights Report”. The report was prepared based on the evaluation of human rights in 155 countries and emphasized that “the world is experiencing the serious consequences of rapidly escalating conflicts and international legal crises”. In addition, the report presents a stark indictment of the betrayal of human rights principles by today’s leaders and institutions. Agnes Callamard, Secretary-General of Amnesty International said, “This report paints a tragic picture of how inequality deepens and climate change accelerates, while superpowers’ competition for supremacy crushes human rights and seriously violates international law”.

For Mongolia, it was pointed out that the right of citizens to live in a healthy and safe environment continues to be violated. During the presentation of the report, D.Sunjid, the head of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, said, “According to the World Health Organization and the International Human Rights Index, air, soil, water and environmental pollution in our country is two to seven times higher. Freedom of the press and the index of corruption have gone backwards”.

In the letter sent by Amnesty International to the Government of Mongolia in relation with the recent report, it is necessary to pay special attention to the right to freedom of expression, assembly, arbitrary detention, torture and other ill-treatment, living in a healthy environment, and the right to access to clean water. The letter also reminded that there are many cases of arrests without a court order in Mongolia due to the loss of the guarantee of trial.
