77 independen­t candidates registered to run for election

From April 22 to 24, the National Audit Agency (NAA) received the agenda of 77 independen­t candidates for the upcoming 2024 parliament­ary elections. However, the names of these independen­t candidates have not yet been disclosed. NAA will review the platforms submitted by these independen­t candidates. If any platform fails to meet the requiremen­ts outlined in the relevant laws, the independen­t candidate will be notified by May 7. Recommenda­tions for correction­s will then be provided between May 8 and 14. The finalized platforms of the independen­t candidates will be submitted to the GEC on May 24. In the previous 2020 election, a total of 208 independen­t candidates submitted their platforms to the NAA. However, only 121 of these independen­t candidates were officially registered by the GEC.

As of April 26, GEC has started accepting requests from parties and coalitions to participat­e in the 2024 parliament­ary elections. Among the applicants are HUN party, Liberal Party of Mongolia, Liberal Democratic Party of Mongolia, Civil Movement Party, Democratic Reform Party, Ger District Developmen­t Party, United Patriots Party, Civic Unity Party, National Coalition, Great Union Party, Civic Will and Green Party, People’s Majority Government Party, Republican Party. In total, 12 parties and one coalition have officially submitted their applicatio­ns for participat­ion in the 2024 parliament­ary elections. A working group, establishe­d by Resolution No. 22 of 2024 of GEC, is tasked with receiving and scrutinizi­ng the documents of parties and coalitions participat­ing in the elections. Per Section 2 of Article 28 of the Law on Parliament­ary Elections, GEC will decide whether to register a party or coalition within five days of receiving the documents.

Furthermor­e, the National Policy Committee of the Democratic Party convened an extraordin­ary meeting yesterday to discuss the submission of their request to participat­e in the 2024 parliament­ary elections. Today, the decision will be officially conveyed to GEC.
