One of Thailand's biggest industrial conglomerates, Siam Cement Group, is planning to open shops in Myanmar in a joint venture with a Thai building materials retailer, the Bangkok Post reported on January 17.

The English-language daily quoted an SCG source as saying it was planning the joint venture with Siam Global House Plc., and expected to open two shops in Yangon and one in Mandalay.

As well as building materials, Siam Global House also sells home improvement supplies.

“We're also looking at Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam but [are] starting with Myan- mar, as we see strong demand for building materials and warehouses there,” the Bangkok Post quoted the source as saying.

“Myanmar is spending a lot on infrastructure and investment projects,” the source said. [Mizzima]
