NLD denies member right to associate
A February 1 statement signed by the National League for Democracy has indicated Dr Thein Lwin, the party's education spokesperson will be disciplined for his participation in the talks held between students, the government and representatives of the education sector on February 1 at the University of Yangon.
Dr Thein Lwin attended the talks in his role as head of the National Network of Education Reform, a network comprised of civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, university personnel, teacher and student groups working for education policy reform in Myanmar.
The NLD statement made clear that “Dr Thein Lwin does not represent for the party in the discussion.”
The statement added that the “NLD does not allow any member to take a leading role in a certain organisation without prior permission of the party in accordance with its rules and principles.”
