NLD de­nies mem­ber right to as­so­ciate

A Fe­bru­ary 1 state­ment signed by the Na­tional League for Democ­racy has in­di­cated Dr Thein Lwin, the party's ed­u­ca­tion spokesper­son will be dis­ci­plined for his par­tic­i­pa­tion in the talks held be­tween stu­dents, the gov­ern­ment and rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor on Fe­bru­ary 1 at the Uni­ver­sity of Yan­gon.

Dr Thein Lwin at­tended the talks in his role as head of the Na­tional Net­work of Ed­u­ca­tion Re­form, a net­work com­prised of civil so­ci­ety or­gan­i­sa­tions, non-gov­ern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tions, uni­ver­sity per­son­nel, teacher and stu­dent groups work­ing for ed­u­ca­tion pol­icy re­form in Myan­mar.

The NLD state­ment made clear that “Dr Thein Lwin does not rep­re­sent for the party in the dis­cus­sion.”

The state­ment added that the “NLD does not al­low any mem­ber to take a lead­ing role in a cer­tain or­gan­i­sa­tion with­out prior per­mis­sion of the party in ac­cor­dance with its rules and prin­ci­ples.”
