U Shwe Mann sub­mits ap­pli­ca­tion to com­pete in gen­eral elec­tion

The chair­man of Myan­mar’s rul­ing Union Sol­i­dar­ity and De­vel­op­ment Party (USDP) U Shwe Mann on Thurs­day sub­mit­ted his ap­pli­ca­tion at the Taun­goo Dis­trict Elec­tion Com­mis­sion to com­pete in the forth­com­ing multi-party gen­eral elec­tion sched­uled for 8 Novem­ber, ac­cord­ing to his so­cial media web­site Xin­hua re­ported on 30 July.

The sub­mis­sion fol­lowed his re­cent an­nounce­ment to run in his na­tive Phyu town­ship con­stituency of Bago Re­gion.

U Shwe Mann, also speaker of Myan­mar’s House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives and Union Par­lia­ment, won the 2010 multi-party gen­eral elec­tion for Ze­yarthiri town­ship con­stituency in Nay Pyi Taw as a rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the House of Rep- re­sen­ta­tives (Lower House).

On Wed­nes­day, the USDP nom­i­nated 149 par­lia­men­tary can­di­dates to con­test in all the con­stituen­cies in Yan­gon re­gion.

The party is ex­pected to an­nounce the to­tal num­ber of its nom­i­nated can­di­dates for all con­stituen­cies across the coun­try on 5 Au­gust.
