Myan­mar to launch the coun­try’s largest book plaza in Yangon

Myan­mar’s planned largest book mall, named Yangon Book Plaza, will be launched in early 2017, the state-run news­pa­per the Global New Light of Myan­mar re­ported cit­ing a spokesper­son of the Nga­doe­sar­pay pub­lish­ing house.

The book plaza will be opened in Than­zay (Iron Bazaar) in Lan­madaw Town­ship in Yangon, ac­cord­ing to San Mon Aung of the pub­lish­ing house.

Lo­cal pub­lish­ers’ book­shops, memorial spa­ces of fa­mous Myan­mar writ­ers, spa­ces for books chains, of­fice and cof­fee shops will be in­cluded in the new book plaza, said the news­pa­per.

The con­struc­tion be­gan in April and it is cur­rently over 50 per­cent com­plete.

The book plaza will also host book fes­ti­vals and re­lated events, the news­pa­per re­ported cit­ing the project im­ple­menter.
