UNICEF, Myan­mar to launch mine risk ed­u­ca­tion scheme for pre­ven­tion of dis­abil­i­ties

Myan­mar and the UNICEF will jointly com­mence mine risk ed­u­ca­tion scheme for pre­ven­tion of dis­abil­i­ties as part of state level schemes for im­ple­men­ta­tion of per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties, re­ported Xinhua. The dis­cus­sions were held be­tween So­cial Wel­fare Min­is­ter Dr. Win Myat Aye and UNICEF Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to Myan­mar June Kunugi in Nay Pyi Taw on June 4. The two sides pledged to con­tinue co­op­er­a­tion for in­for­ma­tion and man­age­ment sys­tem, draw up a na­tional strat­egy plan for the per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties, con­duct so­cial ser­vices for them across the na­tion and work out schemes for early child­hood in­ter­ven­tion in four states and re­gions. Myan­mar held a two-day work­shop in Nay Pyi Taw in April to draft a na­tional strat­egy for per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties. There were about 2.3 mil­lion peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties in Myan­mar.
