UNICEF, Myanmar to launch mine risk education scheme for prevention of disabilities
Myanmar and the UNICEF will jointly commence mine risk education scheme for prevention of disabilities as part of state level schemes for implementation of persons with disabilities, reported Xinhua. The discussions were held between Social Welfare Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye and UNICEF Representative to Myanmar June Kunugi in Nay Pyi Taw on June 4. The two sides pledged to continue cooperation for information and management system, draw up a national strategy plan for the persons with disabilities, conduct social services for them across the nation and work out schemes for early childhood intervention in four states and regions. Myanmar held a two-day workshop in Nay Pyi Taw in April to draft a national strategy for persons with disabilities. There were about 2.3 million people with disabilities in Myanmar.
