Moonshine shops raided in Yangon
INSPECTIONS have been carried out on illegal alcohol shops since June 1, said Major General Aung Thu, deputy minister of Home Affairs.
The shops are being raided as part of a plan drawn up on April 10 to control illegal alcohol and beer production or importing, he said.
“We started taking action according to the plan on June 1,” said Major General Aung Thu.
The General Administrative Department of the ministry is coordinating efforts to investigate illegal alcohol sales and is carrying out raids following tip-offs.
Since April 2016, nearly 14,300 people arrested and faced legal action for selling alcohol without licenses under the Excise Law.
During the same period, close to 4000 people were arrested for failing to comply with alcohol selling regulations although they had licenses, the deputy minister said. The government has intensified operations against bootleg products nationwide – Pyae Thet Phyo
