The Myanmar Times - Weekend - - World - AP

SAUDI Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have held the first-ever meeting of their Saudi-emirati Coordination Council, created amid a diplomatic dispute now affecting a wider regional bloc of Gulf Arab nations.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday night.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE already have a tight security relationship, with both nations deeply enmeshed in Yemen’s war.

The two countries form half of an Arab quartet of nations that have been boycotting Qatar for over a year now in a diplomatic dispute.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia created their council in December, just before a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council attended by Qatar’s ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. –
