Truck col­li­sion kills three in Kayin

A HEAD-ON col­li­sion be­tween two large trucks on Thurs­day on the Myawady-kawkareik road in Kayin State has left three peo­ple dead, res­cuers said.

A fire that started after the col­li­sion was put out by fire en­gines helped by lo­cal char­ity or­gan­i­sa­tions at around 4am.

“The trucks in­volved in the ac­ci­dent were car­ry­ing gas can­is­ters and spray cans. The fa­tal­i­ties are be­lieved to be both truck driv­ers and one driver’s as­sis­tant,” said Ko Thet Naing Oo, one of the res­cuers who helped put out the fire. As of 11am on Thurs­day, some 1000 ve­hi­cles were be­lieved to have been stuck in a traf­fic jam ex­tend­ing 3.2 kilo­me­tres in both direc­tions from the scene of the ac­ci­dent.

Thingyan Ny­in­aung po­lice sta­tion is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the ac­ci­dent.
