Japanese, Filipino artists to hold ‘new media art’ festival in Manila
JAPANESE and Filipino artists will come together for a two-week-long art festival starting October 24 in Manila that will showcase “new media art,” an innovative fusion of technology and art.
The “WSK Axis 2017” festival is being organised through collaboration between the Japan Foundation Asia Centre and local artists who organised past iterations of the festival.
“These events offer deeper cultural exchange with an axis of exhibitions, workshops, forums and concert featuring contemporary Asian new media art at creative centres all over Manila,” Hiroaki Uesugi, director of the foundation’s Manila office, told reporters.
Co-organiser Earl Drilon said he and other Filipino artists have worked with Japanese artists before and found there to be an amicable artistic synergy between them, despite differences in culture and art practice.
The festival will run until November 4, with most events held at the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde School of Design and the Arts. – Kyodo
