Myanmar national portal to be launched
THE Myanmar National Portal will be launched in the English and Myanmar languages to provide information about the country and government in a single place, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The web portal, which is being funded with a World Bank loan of K2.47 billion (US$1.6 million), will provide information on the history, traditional ceremonies and culture of the country and government organisations at all levels. It would provide links to all government department websites, phone numbers and addresses.
“Foreigners who come to Myanmar for travel, to invest or as diplomats will be able to easily find information about government departments and the country in one place,” Daw Nwe Ni Soe Yin, a director of the e-Government Department, said.
Business people can also observe the bidding processes of ministries.
“Before the portal, people had to search for this information on the individual web pages of the different government departments,” said Daw Nwe Ni Soe Yin.
In the future, the public might be able to discuss relevant issues with ministries on the portal and might even be able to vote on it, she said.
Training is being given to regional and state governments so that they can post their activities on the portal.
The Myanmar National Portal (myanmar.gov.mm) will be officially announced this month.
