Flow­ers ga­lore planned at Pyin Oo Lwin fes­ti­val

Over 200,000 flow­er­ing plants will be show­cased at the month-long Pyin Oo Lwin flower fes­ti­val at Na­tional Kan­daw­gyi Gar­dens in Man­dalay Re­gion start­ing on De­cem­ber 15.

THE 13th Pyin Oo Lwin flower fes­ti­val will fea­ture over 200,000 flow­er­ing plants, ac­cord­ing to U Wai Myo Aung, pro­ject man­ager of the Na­tional Kan­daw­gyi Gar­dens in Man­dalay Re­gion, where the event will be held.

U Wai Myo Aung said flo­ral ex­perts from Chi­ang Mai, Thai­land, will han­dle the flo­ral ar­range­ments at the ex­hi­bi­tion, which starts on De­cem­ber 15.

“We will also dis­play flo­ral sculp­tures at the fes­ti­val, which will be held through Jan­uary 15 next year,” he said.

The 430-acre (172-hectare) gar­dens com­prise more than 360 acres of land and 70 acres of wa­ter.

Con­certs by fa­mous singers will also be fea­tured at the fes­ti­val. Thou­sands of for­eign and lo­cal vis­i­tors are ex­pected to flock to the fes­tiv­i­ties.

“We usu­ally go to the flower fes­ti­val even if we don’t go to the Pyin Oo Lwin fire bal­loon fes­ti­val. Pyin Oo Lwin’s Na­tional Kan­daw­gyi Gar­den makes us feel re­laxed and re-en­er­gised. There is so much beauty at the flower fes­ti­val. It gives us a pleas­ant feel­ing when we at­tend,” said Man­dalay res­i­dent Ko Thura.
