Man gets death for murder; wife, mother jailed 10 years
A MAN who stabbed his employer and two other people to death over not getting a pay rise was sentenced to death by Yangon West District Court, and his wife and mother were given 10 years in prison each as accomplices.
The court issued the death sentence to Zwe Lin Htet on Tuesday, according to Hla Tun, one of the deceased’s family members who was at the sentencing.
“I am satisfied with the order of the court,” he said.
Court records showed that on the evening of November 15, 2017, neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from an apartment in Hlaing township, prompting them to inform the local authorities.
When police forced open the door of the apartment, they found the bodies of Kaythi Hlaing, 40, her daughter Thayar Tun, 9, and their helper Aye Mar Oo, 25.
Investigators learned that the accused, who had been working at Kaythi Hlaing’s restaurant, was the last person to visit the victims and had been angered by his employer’s refusal to give him a pay rise.
Investigators charged Zwe Lin Htet’s wife and mother with being accomplices because they had possession of the valuables that he took from the victim after the killings.
