The sun sets over the river as we settle down on the boat. Around us waterbirds like African darter and reed cormorants fly home. A pied kingfisher sits on its perch, one eye on the water for a final fishy snack. On the opposite bank, in one of the large trees (where the old 32 Battallion base lies hidden), I see the white breast of a fish-eagle catch the sun.
Back at Ngepi. Should we prepare our own dinner at the campsite or head down to Ngepi’s restaurant? I heard there’s milk tart on the menu tonight…
