Explore Namibia’s desert rivers with Bhejane 4x4 Adventures.
Explore the unspoilt Kaokoland in north-western Namibia with Drive Out and Bhejane 4x4 Adventures.
DAY 1 We meet at the Ruacana Eha Lodge in the afternoon and head to the Kunene River Lodge. En route (if time allows) we’ll visit Ruacana Falls and the old Ruacana power station.
DAYS 2 & 3 An essential safety briefing follows breakfast to ensure everyone is comfortable with the challenges ahead. Today we drive along the Kunene River before arriving at the spectacular Epupa Falls where we’ll spend two days. There will be plenty of time to view the falls and visit a Himba village. DAY 4 After breakfast we head to Okangwati and the heartland of Kaokoland. We spend the night at the foot of Van Zyl’s Pass, enjoying
a hearty dinner and preparing for the next day’s rocky ride into the Marienfluss.
DAYS 5 & 6 Today we drive over the pass, taking time to admire the breathtaking views. We make our way through the Marienfluss and back to the Kunene River. Our campsite for the next two nights is on the banks of the Kunene. There will be time to explore the Marienfluss or just relax at camp. DAY 7 We continue to drive through the Marienfluss and stop for lunch at the Rooidrom. We then head for a campsite on the banks of the Khumib called Marble Camp. It’s named after a marble mine in the area, which we will visit en route.
DAYS 8 & 9 After breakfast we hit the road following the Khumib River. Keep an eye out for desert elephants and other game. After lunch we enter the Hoarusib River, which takes us all the way to Purros and our campsite for the next two nights.
DAY 10 After an early start we head down the Hoarusib River, and cross over to the Hoanib River at Amspoort. Our next destination is the Khowarib Schlucht. Along the way we’ll search for elephants, rhino and other wildlife while experiencing the ever-changing landscapes of Kaokoland. There will be an opportunity to refuel at Sesfontein that afternoon before heading to our campsite.
DAY 11 On our final day of driving we’ll also drive through our last river on the Desert Rivers tour. We leave the Hoanib River behind and enter the Ombonde River. Today you’ll really earn your 4x4 badge – we will be spending most of the time driving in thick sand and through big dust holes. It’s a great way to finish off an unforgettable journey. DAY 12 It’s time to say goodbye to everyone. We’ll hopefully see each other again on the next Bhejane 4x4 Adventures trip!
