1 Namtib Biosphere Reserve

This reserve is next to the D707 – billed as the most scenic road in Namibia. The Little Hunter’s Rest campsite is 3 km from the main lodge. You have a view of the Tirasberg and the red dunes of the Namib Desert to the west. Camping R190 p.p. (braai, hot showers, no power). Lodge rooms from R2 000 p.p. sharing B&B. 5 Landsberg Campsites Four large campsites (each accommodat­es 10 people) with private ablutions, shading, patio and braai, from R220 p.p. Each campsite has a view over the plains in the foothills of the Tirasberg; three also look out over a waterhole. The sites are far apart from each other, so you won’t accidental­ly catch your neighbour in his gown and stokies.

6 Lovedale Farm

Holidays A working Swakara sheep farm 19 km from Helmering, next to the C27. Camping R150 for the stand, plus R100 p.p. (one stand is wheelchair-friendly). 7 Mount D’Urban Campsite

Campsite on the farm Kosos with 10 stands, each with a private bathroom and power point, with views of the Swartrandb­erg and a peak called Mount D’Urban. Rates from R160 for SADC residents (max four adults per stand). Relax by the pool, explore the veld around the campsite or hike 4 km up to Mount D’Urban. Bring your mountain bike – there are 50 km of trails on the farm (R50 p.p.) – or put your bakkie to the test on a 50 km 4x4 trail (R100 per vehicle). You can buy cooldrink, water, wood, ice and braai packs at the farmhouse. Order fresh bread beforehand.

12 Kalahari Sunset

Game Farm This farm is 48 km from Mata-Mata. There are four camping stands with power points and ablution facilities: R130 p.p. 13 Kalahari Game Lodge

Next to the dry Auob River on the C15, 18 km from the Mata-Mata border post. The lodge has six camping stands spread out in the Auob riverbed. Each stand has its own ablution facilities, with solar power for hot water (donkey boiler in winter), no power points: R240

15 Torgos Lodge The lodge is only 7 km from Mata-Mata and the Kgalagadi Transfront­ier Park, along the C15.
