Cattle Country Football Academy tour Belgium

WINDHOEK – Cattle Country Football Academy (CCFA) from the Omaheke Region, who toured Belgium to participat­e in the justended Euro Bierbeek Football Tournament, represente­d well winning six matches and losing two in the competitio­n.

The 2019 edition was the 34th tournament featuring 24 teams from Europe in the Under-13 category, played from 9 to 11 August in Brussels. CCFA were drawn into Group C with Racing Standard de Liège, Oud Heverlee Leuven, Odense BK, defending champions AZ Alkmaar and Sint-Truiden VV.

The Namibians lost to AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in their opening match, before losing 2-1 to Odense BK.

Junior Tjitjo scored the Namibians’ face-saver in that match.

The boys from Omaheke then bounced back and beat Oud Heverlee Leuven 1-0 through an Utumuna Ngautjiti goal. Ngautjiti was back to torment the local team, Standard de Liège when he scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win.

Omarion Goraseb scored the other goal. The young Namibian striker, Ngautjiti scored another goalina3-1winoverSi­nt-Truiden, while Tjinotjiua Kambirongo and Goraseb added the other two.

The victories propelled the CCFA to the second spot in the group behind AZ Alkmaar to move on to the round of the tournament where they faced Ho Bierbeek, Lierse Kempenzone­n and KLSK Londerzeel.

The Namibians’ rich form continued as they beat Lierse Kempenzone­n 6-0, before thrashing KLSK Londerzeel 4-1 and followed it with a 3-0 victory over Lugano. CCFA conceded six goals in 10 games, while scoring 25 goals in the tournament.

The team also managed to play a match against Germany’s Eintracht Trier 05 who they beat 5-3, after trailing 3-0 at halftime. The tournament was won by RB Leipzig while CCFA finished 24th, and the Namibian team is expected back in Namibia on Friday. –
