A Pick n Pay customer recorded assaulting a female employee earlier this week is still on the run, said the police. Khomas regional crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas told

yesterday afternoon the police are trying to find the suspect.

“We now know where he lives,” said Agas while responding to queries if the man implicated in the assault has been arrested.

In a video shared by The Namibian newspaper, the man whose name is withheld is seen first throwing an object at the female employee. The Namibian reported that the female employee struggled filling in a tax invoice, which resulted in insults and a fight broke out.

In the video, it appears a female friend assisted the man in assaulting the employee.

In the same footage, the angry male customer hastily goes around the counter where the female employee stood and tripped her, and when she fell, he pushed the woman against the counter and continued assaulting her.

Other customers intervened and separated the culprit from the woman. Meanwhile, Pick n Pay Managing Director Graeme Mouton said the male customer and his accomplice have been banned from its stores. Mouton said they are terribly sorry that their employee had to endure the trauma. He said management sincerely apologised to her as well as the rest of the employees and customers who watched the violent altercation.

“This barbaric incident is extremely upsetting as we highly value the health and safety of both our employees and customers. In a country where genderbased violence (GBV) is the order of the day, we simply cannot and will not condone this type of behaviour,” stated Mouton.
